Ah! I heard a lot of arguments proving that money can’t buy happiness. Where is happiness? It lives within ourselves. It’s just a state of our mind. If we choose to be happy, we are happy. If we choose otherwise, well, sad.. But wait…..
Let’s stop the thoughts in our mind that we are happy and come to the reality of the world. No matter how fortunate you are at some or the other things in your life. There are things that go out of your control, there are things of your past which you can’t ignore. Isn’t it? IT IS WHAT IT IS... Just the proportion of good and bad things differ from people to people at the given time. All can’t be equal and no one is equal. So, as we are at the real world instead of our fancy happiness mindset, we have to face the struggles and troubles the world throws at us. Imagine a poor lad facing the world around him. He understands that in his childhood, whenever he felt comfortable, he felt happy. So, all he searched was comfortzones. (Sadly, most adults act like they are still a kid. They still search for comfort all over.) When he grows up, he finds out that making a handsome amount of wealth, a good reputation of himself and a little food for his self-respect gives him more happiness. So, he strives to make money or say wealth, he seeks to carry his reputation and will never demean himself infront of anyone. He will never accept his wrong-doings because he thinks that it will destroy his self-respect. After this phase, this man wants to have his genes to flow further and he marries the girl he likes. At this juncture he feels that providing for his family and making life easy for his future generation gives him immense happiness. So, he strives even harder at his work or business. He finds the best school and the best institutions for his children. He does everthing in his hands just to make his family secured for all the dangers anticipated or unanticipated alike. Finally, after this stage this man finds that it is he who is the one left at the end of his life with his only partner for life. Now, he senses that the happiness he searched all his life got bigger and harder as the time flew by. Now, he realises that the real happiness he finds are those smaller things that he enjoyed a lot in his childhood. Presently, he loves to read comics or stories which he used to, he loves to roam in the garden which he used to do, he loves to spend time with the pet which was his hobby when he was young, he loves to listen to calm soothing music which is nostalgic for him now. Ah!! The man finally found his whole search for life. Dude got the “Happiness”.
As requested in the first sentence itself of the previous paragraph this man for a while stopped to think that happiness is just a thought or a state of mind and relentlessly faced the real world and perhaps a hell lot of larger issues a man can face and ended up just to find that the happiness is in the smaller things and it was just a state of mind. Fine till now…. Untill...
Now what if, this man instead of pursuing the goals he set for himself choose to sit at the corner of his house and blamed everyone for pursuing their dreams as greedy people and tried to convince his mind that he is happy?? Because why not? Afrerall the happiness is just the state of mind, right? Hold on. The answer is- Well, he could be happy for that moment, sorry,, may be few months if at all. Will that state of mind stay long enough?? Remember, Human mind is restless and it never stops before your breath. Unless you are a goddamn medititioner.
So, if you are a man pursuing your goal and making more money (Obviously legally) then you’re not greedy, you’re not missing anything in life. Don’t allow those people who blame everthing except themselves for the things that happens in their life to convince you that you’re making your life a hell by running behind money. You’re doing what any ordinary man has to do, you can’t stop your mind from dreaming and you can’t convince it for the lifetime that happiness is just a state of mind. Oh!! Obviously, you’re not a goddamn medititioner to stop your mind either.
I conclude that happiness actually lies in living through the hardships of your life, making money and accumulating wealth, only at the end to find out that happiness was inside you. Remember “Money doesn’t buy happiness, but it pays for the search of it.”
It may sound mean but you know…,
IT IS WHAT IT IS…
May the good sense prevail in all of us
